The new building negotiates the extremely steep topography of the site by locating itself strategically to allow for the steep hillside to become an integral part of the building itself. The building and the hillside together enclose an intimate and heavily forested entrance courtyard that is the heart of the school. Due to this strategic interaction between building and topography, the former is almost invisible when one approaches it from the top of the slope, while appearing majestic and welcoming when viewed from the rice paddies at the bottom of the slope.
